#but at least there's some exploration of who they are and why they do what they do

I'll try to divide this into 2 parts. First part using game codex entries, other DA canon media, etc to refute points or counter points. Second to point out how some of these points are due to personal interpretations differing. So basically... let's use "facts" for most of the first half and "opinions" in the second. No guarantee that'll work out as I type this but that's the goal at least.
"Solas already knows who Rook is. He doesn't need much time to know who Rook is, it's not a problem for him." Ok but he doesn't. He thinks he does. He thinks he has Rook all pinned down. It's why he doesn't expect Rook to escape the Prison of Regret but Rook does. Solas is convinced that all of his manipulation to get Rook to drown in regret is enough to keep them trapped in that prison. In his pride, he doesn't expect Rook to escape. He once again doesn't expect Rook to see through his final betrayal about the veil. He also doesn't expect Rook to have enough cards by the end to stop him (which is conditional based on what you do in the game)
"If Cassandra rebuilds the Seekers, she is able to deal with emerging cults and unrest quite swiftly (according to the endings)." The ending slide literally says "showing no interest in worldly affairs" - Are you thinking of a different ending slide? Or a different quote? I honestly don't remember this being mentioned at all and can't find any reference to it. Cassandra also spent time in the Hunterhorn Mountains north ofĀ Orlais, where she worked to rebuild theĀ Seekers. For a time, the new Seekers remained reclusive, showing no interest in worldly affairs and working to a purpose few outside their order could guess.
"Also, Friends of the Red Jenny are implied to operate throughout the entire Thedas and have quite a history (they've been mentioned since DA:O). So, for them not to be mentioned at all during the events makes no sense." They started as an organization based out of Ferelden and expanded to (areas that we know) Kirkwall, Orlais, Starkhaven, Tantervale, and Nevarra. They're not described as a powerful global organization. They're peppered throughout Thedas where they can get a foothold. We don't have proof or any mention of them being a thing in Tevinter or Antiva.
"Venatori should not even be a thing. Venatori rose to power only because of the Corypheus" The Venatori at their core are a cult of Tevinter-Mage Supremacists. That ideology doesn't just vanish or appear suddenly. The ideology is deeply rooted in the Tevinter Imperium. Even Dorian points out that many magisters still privately support the Venatori's ideas. While they won't outright sanction it. The Venatori's power increase may be directly tied to Corypheus but these ideologies have been present in Tevinter for a long ass time.
"So, at best there should be some Venatori cults present - but they won't be having that much power because they no longer have structure, they no longer have their god-magister, and they have nothing to sway magisters on their side - especially if they failed to provide any alternative to Corypheus in 10 years and went back to worshipping the Old Gods. [...] To make them the main problem is lazy writing." I don't think we need to get into a lesson on power vacuums here but let's just use the definition of "when someone in a place of power, has lost control of something and no one has replaced them." With Corypheus gone there is a power vacuum. A cult of fanatics don't just say "oh well, guess we'll go home now." According to Tevinter Nights (which the franchise being a mixed-media franchise has it's own problems), while a lot distanced themselves from the Venatori there were still a good number of loyalists who remained active. This leads to Aelia trying to fill in that role. She does gain a decent amount of support for it. Even when she's "captured" she has enough sway to escape prison and cause problems. Why? Because the Venatori's ideology is appealing to a lot of people in Tevinter even if they don't directly associate with the cult. However, with her "failure" we have another power vacuum present - so why is it "lazy writing" to have the emergence of another powerful mage that speaks like Corypheus and offer power similarly to what he did fill that?
"It makes no sense for the Venatori to be the main bad guys because the entire Tevinter fucking sucks already. It's has a horrible, hedonistic and power-obsessed ruling class where dominating the weak is considered good manners. Dorian should be having his hands full by fighting the entire Senate on such concepts as "slavery is bad" and "we should treat non-mages as people" - because Tevinter abhors change and its power is full of assholes like Aurelian Titus. The Venatori are just one shade of ugly the Tevinter has - and not the most prominent one." The supremacist ideology of the Venatori embody everything you're saying here. The examples you're giving are all part of the supremacist mindset. Hedonistic and power-obsessed ruling class? Yep. "Slavery is bad" and "we should treat non-mages as people" Those two concepts are directly against the supremacists ideology. We also do get some notes from Dorian doing just that Veilguard. The Venatori isn't just one shade of ugly, it's the embodiment of everything wrong in Tevinter. It's the supremacist ideology given form.
"Yes, it makes sense for Varric and Harding to take part in the search for Solas - but I can't believe that Rook at least hadn't been approved by the Inquisitor. and that Rook doesn't have means to contact the Inquisitor for further instructions in case something happens to Varric, or Harding or both of them. This is counter-productive." Varric is the one tasked with forming a small team. It's his responsibility to form that team and onboard people and vet them. With the way it's framed in "The Missing" Varric had full authority to bring on whoever. He didn't need approval. They kept in touch via Charter and sent correspondence to the Inquisitor but there wasn't any need for approval. Varric is the main path and Harding is the back up. That's 2 channels. Until the incident happens to Varric that seems standard. When the incident happens with Varric, then I believe Harding should have introduced Rook and the Inquisitor sooner to keep that practice of a back up channel open. Harding does reach out to Charter pretty early to inform them about what happened to Varric and mention Rook. I would have liked an Inquisitor meeting or letter sooner though.
I think below is where different interpretations come in.
"Solas knows how Leliana and Josephine operate, but that's not going to stop them - and it should not stop them when the fate of the world is at stake." You think they wouldn't let that stop them. I think they're smart enough to not continue to play an active part if any information they get or send off is information Solas is spoon feeding them. If their continued involvement would cause more harm then good then yea, I think they would take a step back. I think they would hand off the reigns to others.
"However, it's going to be insanely ha[r]d to prove the threat to anyone else and then tell them to go find Solas. At the same time, intentionally holding back information about what Solas really is means sending the "someone Solas doesn't know" to their death. They go after Solas, thinking it's just a really strong mage - and they don't know that it's actually an ancient god." Given Varric's line to Neve at the beginning, Varric is upfront with the information: "I also told you he was an ancient elven god." Whether the person believes them is dependent on the person. Rook has been tracking Solas with Varric for a year or so. I think by now they've witnessed enough to believe Varric's information.
"And she is going to stop now, after it's revealed that the threat isn't gone? There is no way she won't be an active participant. Even the fact that Seekers aren't welcome isn't going to stop her." I do actually think that the threat of severe political consequences should a southern religious military group make moves in a northern territory under a different religion would dissuade her. Cassandra isn't stupid. We also see her get less rash in Inquisition. We see her stop and think things through more. So actually, yes I do think that since mobilizing Seekers in Northern territory could at worse be seen as an act of war she would let it stop her. She even says at the end of trespasser "we need to be careful."
"Basically, it meant that the Inquisitor and their allies were going to try harder, learn what they can and find new resources, new information, any leverage possible. This is why the Inquisitor sets their course for Tevinter at the end of Trespasser: they were preparing to cooperate with a controversial state, pulling strings and calling favors, finding people with an ample knowledge of magic and ancient history that could assist them with finding any clues;"
L: "My agents have found nothing with the eluvians he could be anywhere"
C: [Dialogue about whether you disbanded or kept the Inquisition]
L: "We have what we truly need."
C: "We will need to be careful."
L: "Solas knows everything about us. Who we are. How we work. Our strengths and weaknesses"
Inky: "Then we find people he doesn't know." [Dialogue about if you are saving him or stopping him]
I do think this means they were going to find new allies and new people. Tevinter Imperium is a good place to start looking for that. And all this plays out through the comics and Harding and Varric's stories. (which again making the series Mixed-media has it's own complications) They do find new allies through their journey. They do find people who have ample knowledge of magic and ancient history. This idea also continues to play out in Veilguard. We find someone who has connections. We find someone who has ample knowledge of ancient magics and history. We find someone who has ample knowledge of the fade since that's what Solas was directly trying to manipulate.
I do not think it implicitly means what you've interpreted it to. I think that's how you interpreted that and I think that's a valid interpretation of it. Unfortunately that's not where they took it. That's also now how I interpreted it. I think a lot of the fandom interpreted this in different ways and that leads to disappointment if their interpretation wasn't correct. I think that's what's happening to you here. I don't think Bioware not catering to your interpretation means "they don't care." or anything like that. I think it's just that what you predicted or assumed based on the information provided ended up being incorrect. Other people predicted it correctly. If anything this just means that the marketing team could have done better at setting expectations and making sure everyone was on the same page.
oh my god that was a lot to type.
I don't think the game is perfect by any standards (no game is). There are things I wish they could have included or flushed out more, but I don't think any of that was done by Bioware devs "not caring." I think the Bioware team does actually really love their world and lore of Dragon Age. To quote their artbook (which is actually insane to look at):
"Art books like this one are the perfect opportunity to showcase what you don't see in the finished product: the inspiration, the blueprints, the unused drafts. We barked up a lot of wrong trees. We explored some wild directions--some ending in dead ends, others ending in precious treasure. We also created a lot of material that we liked but didn't have the capacity to build (in this game, anyway)."
If Bioware truly didn't love and care for their world and lore, the artbook wouldn't be as beautiful and jam packed as it is. There wouldn't be other medias of the series: books, comics, animations, movies.
But Bioware can't just make whatever they want. Bioware is owned by EA (not just published through them. OWNED by them). Bioware has to pay people to make the games. They need to get the funding and approval from EA to do so. This means that no matter how passionate the team is, there's only so much they can do and EA gets a huge say in what that is. EA who explicitly stated earlier AFTER BG3 released that they don't think single player story based games are worth investing in. WHICH IS INSANE TO ME. EA had them start developing the game one way. EA had them change development midway. EA had them remove all multiplayer pieces. EA cut funding to Bioware forcing them to make cuts in staff.
I guess if we say that a lot of the post is us disagreeing on how things are interpreted and not a misunderstanding of the source material then I can say my main problem with posts like this is that it targets the developers. The developers do seem to really love and care for their world and do want to do more, but they can't do it all. They can't just do everything they want. They have a parent company constantly controlling what they can and can not do. I could agree with a lot more posts if they actually targeted the company causing a lot of the problems, EA - WHO WE ALL ALREADY KNOW IS A SHIT MONEY HUNGRY COMPANY. Instead of the Devs who busted their asses for 10 years wanting to do more and being told to change it or scrap it at every turn.
Bioware writing team has a comfy, sheltered life and it shows
I'm sorry, but how come that the only people Inquisitor sent to look for Solas were Varric and Harding? How come that the only people recruited in 10 years of pursuing Solas were Neve and Rook? Do the writers understand that this is NOT how a serious effort looks like?
What about Leliana? Divine or not, she is still Sister Nightingale with an immense spywork. You'd think she won't mobilize everything she has to track Solas and his followers?
What about Josephine? What, she decided "nah, I'm done" and didn't use any of her diplomatic talents and connections to let the Inquisitor's agents have access, permissions or information they need?
What about Dorian? As a political figure, you'd think he will be the first Minrathous contact for the Inquisitor allies, the one arranging things and providing insights?
What about Cassandra and her Seekers? Isn't she interested in stopping another world-ending threat?
What about Sera and her sabotaging potential? If she organized the group of people for performing vigilante acts, people who are her eyes and ears, how come nobody from her group is helping with the effort?
I get it why Varric takes part in it - he knew Solas, the Inquisitor trusts him and his judgement, but for the game to imply that all the responsibility was lumped on Varric's shoulders is fucking disgraceful. I get it writers, Varric is popular character, and you would use him as bait to your heart's content, but the context you've created implies that Varric might have been the only one to take the threat seriously, while the Inquisitor and the rest were doing God knows what.
Varric should have been handing the Rook information on all the contacts they can recruit, all the useful agents, all the people to work with, not tell them to ask Neve because she might know someone because detective (Neve is a good character, but the fact that people who were supposed to spend 10 years chasing Solas look up to her for finding them contacts is appalling).
"Oh, but all these people were in the previous parts and we don't want to mention previous parts because muh new players" - well, you shot yourselves in the foot. Maybe, just maybe, you should have AT LEAST cared more about the choices made in DAI.
Congrats.

So I read Christianās comment and I donāt think heās saying he doesnāt care about Vi, yāall.
I think itās very clear from the creation of the show that Vi is loved and admired and well cared for in these writerās hands
Everyone was
I think what he was saying explicitly was, the story overall is called arcane. Itās about the waking of arcane in PNZ. And parts of Viās story intersect with that. And you can only show so much in one 9 one hour episodes.
Arcane wasnāt Modern Family or Abbot Elementary - those shows are an ensemble but thereās really one or two driving the story. And theyāre character pieces where we explore a single individualās growth or experience.
I think of arcane as an environmental story.
Itās more, āhereās how this thing came to beā aka hextech AND the arcane - to build toward a runeterra that is accessible and understandable for the general public to promote a video game. I donāt think that cheapens characterization nor storytelling. But informs overall story direction WHILE giving us character moments of exploration and growth and pain and love.
Do I wish we saw every minute of Viās existence and Caitlynās growth? Yeah. Of course. But was that the full focus of the story? No. And thatās okay. That doesnāt mean vi got shafted or hated or ignored. It just means that the story served a different purpose. And recognizing what kind of story weāre being told is a hard task. And itās a really big lift of critical thinking we as an audience gotta do.
Some folks decided we were getting a character piece and they were wrong. Not their fault. Expectations being set for multiplayer games vs single player games will do that to us. (We as an audience tend to hyperfixate on individuals rather than the overarching story. Itās why folks remember the odyssey, but not Jason and the argonauts as much. The odyssey is about Odysseus. Jason and the argonauts - it can be argued - is about the journey and ensemble)
All this is to say, I donāt think these writers hated vi or ignored vi or sacrificed vi for the story. I truly donāt. Iām so very satisfied with the growth we got of vi. The butch who loves too hard. Who tries every time to do the right thing. Who fails. But gets back up and loves again. Loves some more. Who really is just a traumatized kid in a grown up suit still trying to deal with that using her fists, her street smarts, and her big. Giant FUKKIN. Heart.
I donāt think the arcane team hated Vi AT ALL. On the contrary, I think they loved her so much, they made conscious choices to not depict certain things SO THAT the fandom could engage. Could fill in the gaps. Could interact.
Fan art and fan content is such a strong nexus for iteration in complicated lore like this, I would bet money on the fact that they decided not to show specific things so that we could create it for us. (Ekko and jinx decorating for battle, CaitVi reconnecting immediately after Cait looses her eye, Tobias apologizing to Vi for snapping in his grief. Etc. etc. etc.)
And one could argue that is lazy and exculpatory and not how stories should be told.
But I disagree vehemently. I think stories serve a purpose. Itās why they have a title that tells you what it is and what youāre gonna get.
And this title was Arcane. The arcane woke up. PNZ are forever changed. Machine Herald was formed. Champions rose. And fell. That was the story of this show. The rest is up to us. š«
And I for one, think thatās really neat. And a triumph. In storytelling, characterization, and world building. š„°
But thatās just me.
All that said, I think youāre allowed to be disappointed and sad you didnāt get what you expected! But being a jerk about a misunderstanding isnāt something Vi would do (or at least sheād feel really bad about the misunderstanding after and apologize. Big time).
But letās not twist words and be cruel to a storyteller (or any storyteller) who clearly has so much love for this story and these characters in their hearts.
Give good faith, get good faith, yāall. Letās be like Vi, big Hearts, letās be like Vi and build to the next moment. Love big. Love hard. And do our best to be kind. Cāept for when folks donāt deserve it. š

HR department romance plots
I justā¦ beyond the surface level of enjoying a new game with new relationship dynamics to explore, I really canāt feel much about the DAV companions or their romances.
They all just seem so disconnected from the story, from Rook (who in turn is entirely disconnected from all kinds of feelings because Rook is just Employee Of the Year), from the world, from themselves. I feel like Cole here, looking at them and saying in my gentle, fleeting voice: even the dwarves donāt really remember dwarves. It really feels like the interpersonal relationships are written by the HR person who sits with you as union rep to tell you that you should use a positive language, that "we are all simply employees here, it doesn't matter what title you have", give a little pep talk about teamwork and how to get the job done. That's what we're here for. Everyone's equal. We all want the same thing here, your boss is your friend. Have you tried talking to this person, see their side of things, mmmm? It's just... yeah, they're cute, all of them. But why do they like each other? Why do they want to be with Rook? Who are they even in relation to the world of Thedas, what do they believe in, what have they overcome, what do they hate, what sort of prejudices do they carry around? I have no idea.
And since Iām also replaying DAI again, I wanted to compare these romances to my canon romances in DAI.Ā With Blackwall, you immediately get a sense of attraction and a sort of flirting on his part that suggests this is something he falls into quite easily - āyou know a lot about girlsā to quote Cole - BUT itās also something he really, really thinks he shouldnāt be doing now. Why? He is tied to the Warden plot, if you bring him along you get a sense of a man hiding shit but you donāt really understand what, and he still comes to see you (flying/climbing up your balcony wall idk) because he canāt step away. You get to tell him heās a good man even though you know shit about that at this point, like with Anders in DA2 you can give your PC over to this passion/love despite knowing that thereās something off, something potentially harmful or dangerous. There is conflict, there are things that jar, that can even make you uncomfortable.Ā
Blackwall as a character is open and compassionate. He approves of mercy, shows mercy, he isn't judgmental of others. In sharp and delicious contrast Blackwallās crime is vile. He isnāt bound by any sort of oath, he can back down, there is no greater good whatsoever in his actions. Itās inexcusable. And yet. YET. You can CONTINUE THE ROMANCE. He killed a wagon full of kids, THEN RAN AWAY AND LET HIS MEN TAKE THE BLAME and hates himself so much that he tries to become someone else by erasing his previous self from the face of the earth. You can still kiss him and tell him you want him to live and redeem himself. Itās fucking incredible to think about this in the light of Veilguard actually. Your LI, the child murdering coward.Ā
With Iron Bull you have the doubts all spread out on the table. Heās a spy, how could you ever trust him? He also doesnāt respond to your flirting, why the hell not when you hear through ambient dialogue that heās fucking half the chantry, isnāt he supposed to be a fuckboy? But heās fun, heās a mystery, heās got fascinating banter with everyone, heās brought his found family along, heās a Qunari who at least somewhat believes in the Qun - heās got AMAZING conversations with Solas that characterizes Bull as deeply intelligent (and Solas as much more caring than heād let on) and knowledgeable about surprising things like architecture. Cole, as always, gives us more insight into Bullās mind along the way and even before the offer to ride the Bull, the idea of him has been through some adjustments. You change his idea about a lot of things and in return, Bull challenges your idea of him, your idea of the Qun, your idea of the world and possibly, depending on how you react to his romance, your idea of intimate relationships. The gameās writing allowed me to imagine a rather frumpy circle mage in her mid 30s reluctantly forming a friendship with this strange fellow, only to find herself very much attracted to him, only to find herself being cared for in a way she would never have let anyone do before simply because Bull told her that was the only way heād be with her. This is how weāll do it, are you in? Your LI, the service top Qunari spy who is terrified heāll run mad without his belief system to dictate his actions.Ā
And Solas. I mean mythical love stories culminating in mythical endings aside, what I really fell for in this relationship was the refreshing dynamic not of enemies to lovers but of two souls just sort of connecting instantly during strange events, taking a few hard looks at each other and going oh shit itās you, you get me HOW is it possible you get me when nobody else does? Thereās so much external drama surrounding them, which is why I personally LOVE and ADORE how calm their internal connection actually is. They know, so early in the game, that this is it. Youāre my home, you understand the bones of me, you ask questions no one else thinks of asking, you care about the world in a way I havenāt seen anyone else do. He is LITERALLY the only one who understands your Lavellan when they make her the herald, when she protests and they keep pushing and pulling and sing their song after Haven, and Solas is there to be sarcastic about it. If nothing else, I'd fall in love with that. And thereās this sense of impossibility from the very beginning, a sense of it being almost unreal because the first kiss is in the Fade, the second is in a frenzy where Solas goes from 0 to I LOVE YOU, MY HEART and then leaves and you know, you know how this is coded and YET - he seemed so wise and kind and sad, it goes like this, the fourth, the fifth. And even with this connection of souls, things chafe - heās an absolute bastard about certain things, he mocks your heritage and you donāt know yet that itās because a huge guilt blanket rests on top of him since thousands of years back, you can just argue back and receive his disapproval. He says itās selfish of him to start anything with you yet he does - WHY DO YOU DO THAT, SAD EGG? Your LI, the ancient god of rebellion, treachery and lies, depending on the story.Ā
Even beyond my favourites, there are conflicts. Sera is A LOT (affectionate) if you're an elf, with Cullen you get a substance abuse story-line tied to his general dismay about his past as a really fucked up templar, Dorian has personal trauma and cultural prejudice he struggles with for the entire game, Vivienne is so complex half the fandom hates her and has very awkward and uncomfortable banters with almost everyone (save for Bull because he treats her like he would a tamassran), Cassandra is constantly challenged in her personal beliefs, very clearly reflected in her conversations with Solas and Cole has a whole personal plotline about deeply existentialist matters. What does it mean to be alive? Who is a person and who gets to decide that? He could have been a person, Varric says. Isn't he already? Does this unit have a soul? Not to mention that Cole functions chiefly as a speaker of truths, bringing a lot of complexity to the others.Ā
DAI is not perfect by any means but I feel like I know these bastards. I feel like my PC or even I could actively dislike some of them, because they are written to create dynamic conflicts inside and outside of their own arcs.Ā I can write fic about them, I can imagine what they're doing during the events of DAV because I know them.
Because they are written like actual people in a world where some people have power over others and some people have been raised with a certain belief system and some people just have shitty takes on society, may they learn.Ā

Hi, I love your things to muchšš
So I was thinking maybe Lucius has also an niece, the daughter of commodus
No one knows of your existence, you are a concubine for the emperors. They have more but your their favorite. Then one day Lucius wanted to help you escape, you did not and told the emperors of it. Normally they are never soft doms, but this time they are and you are praised for what a good girl you are to them
Soo, soft stuff for you guys!! Or I tried at least, lolol, im still very sick, so this did wonders to me. <3 The reader in this one is kinda pathetic tho, not sorry.
āLove you, my Emperorā¦ Love you so muchā¦ā ā Both Emperors hear you say in your meek voice, like a song to their ears, you can feel Geta's warm hand on your cheek, caressing the soft skin of your face, which subconsciously seeks more of his affection, rubbing itself against his palm like an abandoned kitten would, your tongue obediently sticking out of your mouth, which he wastes no time in placing his thumb on top of, letting you explore it with your lips passionately. You close your eyes, feeling the pleasurable sensation of fingers running through your hair, combing your strands, untangling them, massaging your scalp. You try to sharpen your senses, focusing on their sweet aroma, Caracalla's hand massaging your head, urging you to lean even more towards Geta's hand, making you lose yourself more in their caresses, it's delicate. It's special, you feel special in this moment. You were good today, very good indeed.
āNoooā¦ā ā You meow in disappointment when you feel Geta's hand start to move away from your face, instantly following it with your head so as not to lose its warmth, surprisingly Geta allows you to do so, on normal days, he would have brushed you away and slapped you across the face for your incessant neediness. You smile at today's change in attitude, just as you feel like purring when Caracalla starts spreading kisses in your uncovered cheek. You feel so loved by both of them, you wish that every day would be like this from now on, even if as an unattainable dream, you know why they are acting like this, you're not getting all of this good treatment on a silver platter, you earned it, deserved it, even though you had to sacrifice some things for others, you are content with your choice.
This feels good, you did good, you think to yourself, you don't feel guilty. You swallow hard, an audible gulp, you try to push that look of hurt and betrayal to the back of your mind. His look of hurt and betrayal. He seems like a ghost in your life now, you can feel the weight of guilt on your back, making you have to shake your head from side to side to shake off the negative feelings. It was worth it, it was worth it, it was worth it, it was worth itā¦ You repeat in your head, until everything becomes clear again, until you can again feel the comforting caresses on your body, welcoming you. Finally, you are welcomed.
āWe plan to make love to you today, my dearā ā Geta says, taking your mind off other matters and focusing on both Emperors again, you open your eyes to admire him, he has what you would say is the closest to a sweet smile on his features than you will ever see from him. You can feel your heart skip a beat, turning to jelly in Caracalla's arms, who now holds you a little more firmly against his body, almost placing you on his lap.
āMake love?ā ā You question curiously, your voice dreamy with false expectations, never in the many years you have served them have you ever heard of this lovemaking thing.
āDon't you love us?ā ā You hear Caracalla questioning in your ear, pretending to be hurt by your question, his head rubbing against your neck, his hair tickling your face, like a puppy.
āI doā¦!ā ā You respond instantly, surprised that they would even ask you that, oblivious to the manipulative tone behind it. You did everything you did out of love for them, and out of love for the attention and affection they can provide you, in times like these, they are the only ones who could provide the minimum of security for you and your well-being, they make sure you know that, the certainty that nothing would happen to you as long as you are in their favor.
Silence falls, you can feel the words you want to say on the tip of your tongue, but uncertainty makes you hold them back for minutes longer.
āDo you love meā¦?ā ā You ask both Geta and Caracalla, you can't contain the anticipation in your voice, even if it's weak and hesitant. You are met with laughter from the twins, they laugh at your question, they think you're such a box of surprises, you really were born to be an entertainer just for them!
āYou are so cuteā ā Caracalla says, it sounds mocking, just like their laugh, and it wasn't the answer you were hoping to receive, but even so, it makes your heart warm inside your chest. They think you're cute. They think something of you, you are something. Your happy little smile earns you a pat on the head from Geta.
āCute indeedā¦ā ā Geta responds in agreement, both twins exchange glances, Geta licks his lips before smiling at you ā "Why don't you get more comfortable for us, dear?ā ā He gestures to the bed, encouraging you sneak further back.
Caracalla helps you with that, taking the initiative to crawl to the headboard of the bed himself, resting his back against it, his pale legs spread wide to create the perfect space for you. He calls you over, patting his thigh twice, and you are drawn to him like a moth to light. You shyly walk over to him, turning to lay your back against his chest, with the two of you sitting in this position, he wraps his arms around your body, hugging you close, the easy access allowing him to bury his nose in your neck, laying his forehead on your shoulder. ā "Help me get these offā ā He says in a controlled tone, trying to be loving, you appreciate that, normally he would have impatiently instructed you, as if you were the fool for not knowing what he wanted before he even asked, or he would have pushed you and taken them off himself. You lift your hips off the bed a little, making it easier for him to remove your panties, doing so delicately with the tips of his fingers on the elastic, letting you feel the fabric slide over your skin until it is completely removed, earning you a little kiss of thanks on your exposed shoulder.
You miss the way the twins look at each other or how Caracalla hands your panties to Geta, who puts them in a place on the bed that he can remember later on. But one thing you don't miss is how Geta now also approaches your body, trapping you, his hands resting on the headboard that Caracalla leans on, trapping both your head and his between his arms. On Caracalla's lap, you open your legs, inviting Geta to settle between them, something that he gladly accepts.
āLet's get you all prepped and ready, dearā ā Geta says as he admires your face, his hands going down to the bottom of your robe, lifting it to give him a better view of your body and intimacy, meanwhile, Caracalla does the same, letting your robe slide down over your shoulders, leaving kisses on the new free skin, your bust now exposed to the cold air of the room, your robe becoming a mess that only covers your torso and nothing more. You watch the way Geta takes his two fingers, the index and the middle one, between his lips, sucking them with intent, his eyes never straying from yours, Caracalla's own fingers already at work, moving down your body until they reach your lower lips, opening you for his brother, the cold air hitting your pussy.
Geta and Caracalla prepare you carefully, both watching attentively as your entrance slowly gets used to the intrusion of Geta's fingers, Caracalla stimulating your clitoris with his, every now and then you watch as he spits on his own hand before stimulating you again, they love the way you are always so tight, you crush their cock in the most perfect way possible. ā "Must take good care of this cunt, it's my favorite one" ā Caracalla growls, licking a drop of sweat that previously ran down your face, you giggle happily in the midst of pleasure, yours is the favorite, no other.
āShe liked what she heard, she almost cut off the blood circulation in my fingersā ā Geta jokes, referencing to the way you clenched and squeezed his fingers when you heard the compliments, you love it when they compliment you, you wish they would do it more often. ā "How would you like to be taken today, dear?ā ā He questions, letting you make some of the choices, tonight will be about you and what you want, that's what they agreed between themselves.
āWant to be huggedā¦ā ā Embarrassed, you confess, you didn't expect such a needy response from yourself, however, this is a unique chance, unfortunately, you recognize that, you can't let the shyness of being so emotionally dependent on them take over. You need their embrace like you need air, you hate to be truthful to yourself.
āAwfully romantic, huhā ā Caracalla chuckles, Geta arches his eyebrows in agreement, neither daring to question or stand against your decision. Geta helps you sit more precisely on his brother's lap, Caracalla's cock now rubbing at your entrance, you hold him by the base of his penis, slowly introducing him inside you, earning a moan from both of you when he reaches the end, you can feel it almost hitting your cervix, reaching all the perfect places in your pussy. You rest your head on Geta's chest, getting used to the feeling of his brother inside of you, as does Caracalla, who tries to control himself by resting his head on your back, it is a difficult task for both of them, being so patient with your body, normally they wouldn't prepare you or at least wait for you to get used to the feeling of intrusion.
A few minutes pass, your breathing gradually regulates, your pussy starts to want more instead of trying to repudiate what's in it, you look at Geta, and that's all he needs for confirmation, getting closer to you, you do the same to him that you did to his twin, holding him at his base, your delicate fingers feeling his pubic hair rise in goosebumps with the touch, and you bring him to your entrance, he lets you do everything in your own time, watching as you slowly insert him too in your pussy. It's a tight fit, you feel like you're being torn in half, and as tears stream down your face, a groan is heard from Geta and Caracalla, oh, how they love the feeling of being milked alive by you and your fucking perfect cunt, you can feel Caracalla's nails digging into your arm unconsciously, something he tries to alleviate by distributing kisses on your back. They hurt you so lovingly that you can almost pretend it never hurt.
As agreed, they embrace you, Geta wraps his arms around your waist, while Caracalla's make your hips their home, both pressing you against their own bodies, making you become inseparable from each other. You let one of your arms fall over Geta's shoulder, resting there, while the other wraps itself around Caracalla's head, playing with the strands of hair on the back of his neck, pulling him into a fervent kiss, his tongue tasting your mouth as if there was nothing more delicious, his moans being straight sinful on your lips. You rub your lower body against Geta's, seeking to stimulate your clit against his pubic mound, his hair there becoming sticky with your fluids, he mercifully helps you, letting a globule of saliva come out of his lips into the middle of your bodies, lubricating your movements more, earning him an animalistic moan from you and the separation of your kiss with Caracalla, starting one with Geta as naked and raw as the past, the carnal desire speaking for itself. Your minimal movements still do a lot to stimulate the cocks inside you, earning a unanimous moan with every rub you make or every adjustment, soon, you find yourself seeking more of that exciting feeling with the taste of heaven, moving your waist so that you start to ride them gradually.
It's almost too much, the way they let you make your own rhythm, your own dance, just helping you stand on shaky knees ready to give up, but you can't, you can't stop, you need that release that's so far away but so close that you can take it in your hands. You can barely see them anymore, your eyes close, you let yourself drown in the sound of skin slapping against skin, the sticky feeling of sweat, the profanities and compliments, the kisses, caresses and wounds, if you try hard, you can almost focus on the various I love yous that come out of Caracalla's mouth, who barely realizes who he really is when the pleasure is too much, and they would accuse you of being the romantic one, you laugh in your head.
You hear Geta's moan of pleasure mixed with pain as the hand on his shoulder begin to scratch and tear at it, drops of blood running down his bare, pale back. But he barely protests, being a good girl really does have its perks, huh. If being a good girl is always going to result in you having the affection of your Emperors and a free pass to do things without being punished, maybe you should rat people out more often, you let your mind wander as you reach your climax, writhing between their bodies, both of them letting their cocks impale you inside to your heart's content, you would have them forever in you if you could, their cocks are just made for you, a gift from God just for you.
āI love your smell.ā
āI love your eyes.ā
āI love your body.ā
āI love your voice.ā
"I love your breasts.ā
āI love your curves.ā
āI love this fucking pussy.ā
You hear them say, one after the other cumming inside you, painting your walls white, and your body red with each touch. You feel disgusting. You feel loved.
āDo you love me?ā ā You ask again, between gasps, just like them, you feel your vision start to darken, you feel so safe that you could fall asleep right now, a groan of discontent as they disconnect from inside you. Everything is almost like a pitch black, you feel them cleaning you, you being gently laid on the bed, something clothing fabric like cleaning your pussy and everything that runs out of it.
They open your lips, shoving the fabric into your mouth. Oh, it must be your panties, you assume even with your clouded mind. It tastes like your fluids mixed with their divine cum. You suck on it like a pacifier, bodies intertwining with yours on the bed.
āYes.ā
āVery much so.ā

Honestly Iāve always seen Bloodbath (or the kill Zara quest) as Illarioās final desperate attempt to be swayed form his plan. It kind of reminds me of Solas and Varricās note of him in the beginning of the game āhe just needs someone to give him a different optionā
Like Illario is genuinely upset about this whole thing. He thought Lucanis was dead, and we see that he was such a chronically depressed alcoholic yapper after Lucanisā death that even though he did give the hit, he at least regretted it or it didnāt sit well with him. (I have no doubt Zara manipulated him to some extent into it, since she has her eyes on Lucanis after the Wigmaker job anyway, but neither Zara or Illario are actually explored in game). But when Illario is taking us to the boat, he makes note of saying Catarina didnāt tell him because āI would have tried to save him.ā The way he says that line is in a COMPLETELY different tone than anything else he says. Itās stern and to the point, not condescending like after Illario takes out Zara and talks down on Lucanis, telling him heās a danger and liability.
If Illario knew Lucanis was actually alive, he probably would have killed Zara earlier. And Zara obviously KNEW THIS because she didnāt tell Illario Lucanis was ALIVE for that very reason. Illario never knew about Spite. He never planned for the Ossuary. He never meant for that to happen! Zara knew that whatever Illario and she had going on would never even be close to the bond Lucanis and Illario have, and Illario would put that over power every single time.
Almost every single time.
Because he knows what he did, and he still goes out for coffee with Lucanis and the weirdo rando that saved him. And then he tries to convince Lucanis to stay away from Zara, because he knows that Zara is capable of and how not only she can, but has hurt Lucanis. (She turned his big brother into an abomination!)
WAIT A MINUTE WHO ELSE DOES THAT? Lucanis does! Except Lucanis is more direct about it. Says that Zara might come after him. Illario tries to convince Lucanis sheās in fuckass land, get him out of the situation ENTIRELY involving Antiva, the Anntam, First Talon. Yeah, thereās probably a selfish motivation, but in Wigmaker Illario is so fucking scared Lucanis is going to essentially fling himself off a cliff, thereās a genuine āheyy can you take a holiday? Can you stop being passively suicidal for me, your little cousin? Can we stop with the ādeath is my callingā shit?ā
Of course Illario canāt just go āuhh Iāll take care of it dw broā because to Lucanis the beef with Illario and Zara isnāt merely as personal as he (and Spites) beef with her. They really just want to protect one another and get their dues.
Illario killing Zara wasnāt so much for him. I mean she kind of played him, but whatever, it didnāt necessarily affect Illario in anyway, it was for Lucanis. A way to try and appease the guilt of something that he never intended to happen to his older brother. Thatās why Illario wants to be there during Bloodbath. āItās Crow businessā aka āWHY ARE YOU TAKING WEIRDO RANDO 1 & 2 OVER ME? I deserve to be at your side, Iāll follow you to the ends of the earth and back, why wonāt you let me anymore?ā
So Illario meets Lucanis and his rando friends on the rooftop. Lucanis asks him what heās doing there- and Illario says he wants to go. Heās so desperate to go, to prove his alliance to his big brother cousin. But thatās not all. Lucanis has been gone for a year, and then left immediately. Killing and missions, being Crowās is one of the main ways Lucanis and Illario bond.
Illario has never felt good enough. For his grandmother, for Lucanis, for anyone. Thatās why he started this mess. Zara tells him Lucanis doesnāt think heās good enough, he never will be, until he does the most Crow thing ever and cuts him out of the family line. Then finally, maybe, when his cousinās eyes are glassy and corpse empty, will they be filled with approval.
But Lucanis is right here (with two randos)! And Illario asks him to involve him, just looking for that smidge of approval. And Lucanis says no. Ok. Cool! Maybe he just wants you safe. Fine, whatever. But youāre capable- at least you think you are.
So you ask the damning question. āYou think Iām not good enough?ā
And your cousin, your big brother, simply says: āAre you?ā
While surely a good natured jab from Lucanis as siblings do, had Lucanisā answer been anything even close to praise or more concern, I think Illario wouldāve been fine to step out of the way. ALL he needed was Lucanisā mild assurance/approval. Just a āoh no, youāre good enough. I just donāt want you getting hurt is allā
But he doesnāt say that. He simply feeds into the very insecurity that sent Illario to selling him out, the very one that Zara told him but he never quite believed until the words came from Lucanisā mouth. āYouāre not good enough to stand by my side anymore.ā And potentially āIāve replaced you with rando 1 & 2, I donāt need you anymoreā
So then he doubles down. No more playing nice cousin or big brother little brother. If Lucanis doesnāt want Illario by his side anymore- fuck it, Illario doesnāt need him. Lucanis saying Illario isnāt good enough isnāt just a blow to his ego, or self confidence/self esteem, itās a flat out rejection. So he takes the kill from Lucanis, and essentially tells him to get the fuck out of dodge or else, and then tries to strong arm first Talon.
Lucanis never quite gives Illario āthe different option.ā Illario throws their bond away not because he necessarily wants to, but because he thinks Lucanisā threw it away first, and that heās just folding onto a frayed rope (not even mentioning how Illario crosses out Lucanisā name in the family line, showing how he justā¦ almost doesnāt exist. Heās gone to Illario. Illarioās so hurt by everything he just wants Lucanis gone at this point, come hell or high water.)
Lucanis quite literally says that the only way Catarina would be proud of Illario is if he kills her, and if that extends to Lucanis, so be it.

Just a little stepdad!Betelgeuse and stepdaughter!Astrid idea/headcanon for you tonight:
Imagine Astrid came back with ghostly powers from the Netherworld after BJBJ, like we've been speculating here recently, and, with Lydia unable (or unwilling??) to help her navigate this one power in particular, she resorts to calling Betelgeuse for help. That power: remote possession of the living, just like the Maitlands did, and just like Betelgeuse did in BJBJ.
I can understand why Lydia would want Astrid to push this one down. One thing's a ghost taking over another person, but a living person making other living people move to her will? Kinda scary! It could go wrong in so many ways! Lydia would probably struggle to come to terms with it, at least for a while. And that's why this idea is so interesting to me, tbh! There's a lot there to explore: questions of morality, "just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should", etc.
Astrid takes no shit from no one, but she does have some students "bullying" her at school that get on her nerves. What other perfect targets to practice her new powers on? š Imagine the chaotic duo of Betelgeuse and Astrid controlling the people who bully Astrid at school with their ghosty powers, both of them hiding in the bushes dressed in camo outfits, staring with binoculars from afar while their targets make complete fools out of themselves. Betelgeuse doesn't exactly have a moral compass to think "these are just kids, shouldn't mess with them like this", and that's exactly why Astrid thinks "yep, he's the only one who can really help me learn to use this power". Anyway, that'd be totally hilarious. Wait until Lydia finds out what they're up to. lol
No, but, hear me out, what if Astrid goes dark side with these new powers and THEN Lydia and Beej have to work together to get her back? And Beej almost sacrifices himself (or sacrifices something important to him... gonna have to think that one over, but hear me out), he has to sacrifice something and do everything he can to right this wrong. He did help Astrid out, and things went horribly wrong and it's mostly his fault. He goes above and beyond to save her and it finally shows without any doubt that his actions are not selfish; that he really does love Lydia and her family.
Anyway, going way too cartoon plot with this last part, maybe, but I love this idea. š
#Poor Beej would throw himself several steps backwards on his quest to win Lydia's heart lol#But he can't say no to his future stepdaughter š#Beetlejuice headcanons#Beetlejuice#Beetlejuice ideas#Beetlebabes#Beetlejuice fam#Beetlefam#Beetlejuice 3 hopes#Beetlejuice 3 headcanons#Beetlejuice 3 ideas#Betelgeuse and Astrid#Stepdad Betelgeuse#Astrid Deetz#Beetlejuice x Lydia

Trafalgar law x witch! straw hat (part 6) ---------------------------------------
"Another day, another spell! Or maybe not, because today is my break!" she thought excitedly as she walked around the dock. It seemed Law hadn't woken up yet, but neither had the crew! Except for Sanji and Brook, who always woke up at that time.
Sanji was cooking breakfast skillfully while Brook enjoyed a good cup of coffee. "MORNING!" Y/N greeted, stepping in to join them.
"Y/N-chwaaannn~ How grateful I am that you blessed me today!" swooned Sanji, while Brook returned the salute casually.
"Need help?" she asked Sanji, coming closer to the cutting board.
"No need! You must be tired from night guard duty," he replied, declining the offer but returning to his cooking as he casually asked about last night.
"Nah! I don't feel tired at all!" she answered cheerfully, sitting close to Brook.
"Yohohoho~ You never seem to be sleepy!" chimed Brook.
"And you'll never catch me slipping!" she said with a small, shared laugh, and the atmosphere returned to its usual comfort. Sanji continued to cook, Brook drank his coffee while thinking of his next tune, and Y/N read a book without a title.
It was peaceful, and soon, everyone started coming in, waking up from their slumber.
"Hey! Whereās Tragu?" asked Luffy, after munching on some breakfast. Nami and Robin turned to Y/N, prompting everyone to do the same.
"He's probably still asleep," she stated calmly.
Zoro looked at her from the side before going back to his food.
"That's not fair! Why does he get to sleep?" protested Luffy.
"That's true! He needs to at least wake up on time!" added Usopp
"What's with the commotion so early in the morning?" Law said as he entered, and all eyes turned to him. Some smiled, while others quickly returned to what they were doing. Luffy and Usopp, however, decided to tell him what the commotion was about.
"How dare you not wake up on time!" "Yeah! How dare you!"
The man in question didn't change his expression as he sat down for a cup of black coffee, ignoring the two idiots.
With an angry look, Usopp demanded one more answer, "And where were you yesterday? You didnāt sleep in the menās quarters nor on the ship's deck!"
Now that caught everyoneās attention. "Where was he?" Everyone focused on Law, waiting for an answer. His response was simple: "Asleep."
Everyoneās faces fell to the floor. Was it the answer they wanted? No. Did it help? Maybe. But thanks to Nami bringing good news to change the subject, the situation was saved.
"Weāre getting closer to an island!" she showed her compass, causing Luffy and Usopp to quickly leave Law alone.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the Thousand Sunny docked, the summer island appeared abandoned, with overgrown trees and missing a port or road. It looked completely deserted. The crew decided to spend the day exploring or swimming.
"Not leaving?" asked the witch.
"Donāt feel like it," Law answered, leaning against the mast with his katana close by, his hat covering his face.
Hearing this, she sighed and rolled her eyes before walking away. "Oh! That should be obvious, but donāt touch anything in my lab."
He ignored her, giving her a side-eye. She jumped off the ship and caught up to Nami and Robin.
"Nami! Robin, wait up!" she shouted, catching up to them. "I believe we havenāt spent much time together lately."
The two women looked at each other and smiled. "Well, I am going to draw the islandās map," said Nami. "And I am accompanying Chopper to find some medical herbs," added Robin.
Nami's option wasnāt as tempting as collecting ingredients with the adorable doctor and the archaeologist, so the decision was clear. "Let's get to collecting! Nami, I'll join you in the afternoon!" Y/N exclaimed excitedly, throwing her fist in the air.
Nami shook her head and waved them off, preparing her tools to draw the map. Chopper got his bag, and Robin chuckled as she walked alongside the two into the heavy forest.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The forest was thick with branches and hanging vines, heavy with humidity, which excited the doctor and the sorcerer for the amount of plants around themāwildflowers, mushrooms, weeds, various berries, and animals.
The two had a blast finding and comparing the uses of certain herbs in their fields.
"This is useful for painkillers!" exclaimed Chopper, showing her a leaf. "It can be used to create ink for scrolls!" she answered. "It was a plant used in human sacrifices," added Robin.
Which understandably creeped Chopper out, but the conversation didnāt end there. "For real? To harvest their souls for dark magic?" "Usually itās to please a god or bring fortune and get rid of illnesses." "Huh."
"Can we change the subject?" pleaded Chopper, looking at the two women like the subject at hand was a normal thing.
Deciding to continue, the conversation died down as the three continued the herb hunt, until...
The forest grew colder and less crowded with trees. Even the animals became scarce. Thatās when they reached an abandoned town. Doors were torn down, windows were broken, and everything reeked of death.
Chopper hid behind Robin while Robin and Y/N got on guard, ready to fight at any moment. "We should head back," said Chopper, but it seemed only Robin heard. "Y/N?" But she didnāt respond, walking to the side of a house and inspecting its wall, which was covered in grayish, wall-climbing plants. Tearing them down revealed... a strange symbol.
"This is bad news," she muttered.
Cawww!
"We have to leave! The crow is warning us!" yelled Chopper, but it was too late. Blackened arrows were shot at them from the sky. Robin grabbed Chopper, shielding him with her body.
"Not a second time," whispered Y/N. "ARIELA!" she shouted as a purple shield engulfed the three of them, protecting them.
"A witch! Our lucky day!" The culprits, a group of people with ragged clothes and bone-like physiques, emerged from their hiding spots. "We can satisfy our goddess!"
"Nerocta evera aarota!" she casted another spell, this time conjuring a strong wind that blew the attackers back. The leader quickly formed a shield of his own, filled with horrified faces. "Shit!"
"Robin, Chopper, RUN!" she shouted, dissolving the shield.
The two nodded, though hesitant, understanding that returning to the others was in their best interest. Chopper shifted into his running form to save time.
"Catch them!" three of the attackers jumped forward at their leader's command, but were stopped by a rock wall slamming into them, taking them out.
"Come on, then," Y/N muttered, her fingers crackling with mana. "Show me what youāve got."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the other side, things were more peaceful. Sanji returned with some fruits and vegetables, Zoro had hunted down some animals, and the rest were either resting on the beach or waiting for Franky's infamous 'SUPER BURGER!'
Nothing could disturb their peaceāuntil Robin and Chopper showed up, barely catching their breath. The crew immediately got guarded, and Nami and Luffy rushed toward them.
"What's wrong?" asked Luffy, worried. "Whereās Y/N?" added Nami.
That's when Robin spoke up. "Magicians! A lot of them!"
With this new information, the crew exchanged looks. Zoro, Sanji, Luffy, a reluctant Usopp, and Nami decided to go help their friend. "Where?" Robin pointed in the direction they came from, and before she could give more details, Luffy and Zoro ran straight ahead.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the commotion rose, the two sides continued their battleātwo types of magic: those who used mana and knowledge, and those who relied on othersā souls.
"HAH! You think you can take US down?" the leader mocked, as ghostly hands emerged from the ground beneath him, attacking Y/N. "Youāll make a perfect sacrifice!"
Ignoring him, Y/N jumped high, creating a boulder to stand on. As she looked down at them, the witch felt... anger? Betrayal? Or just pity? Sheād never know, because she had to finish this quickly.
"Ignia mi cora jejuteti sma tih berimah min thulg wanar ISMARI NEDAI YASAMA!" she threw her hand up with the palm facing the sky, the other straight by her side, palm facing the ground. "Waayuha ard kudibeamry wahibry tarwidatenla tasmahleaduwy LILHARAB!"
With the two spells cast, the sky filled with dark gray clouds, and the ground glowed with strange letters surrounding the whole village.
"RUN!" one of the dark magicians warned, running toward the edge of the village, but instead bumped into an invisible wall.
"WhatāTHAT BITCH! Kill her!"
With one of them soaring high to stab her, an ice crystal pierced him, slamming him to the ground. And that was when the hell she unleashed beganāice-like spears and fireballs rained down, crushing the ceramic bodies of the dark magic users and burning them to ash.
Y/N descended, the sky clearing as the glowing runes on the ground faded. She bent down to pick up a ceramic shard that hadn't burned. "So, you also lose your humanity by 27, huh?" she chuckled dryly before letting the shard crumble into ash...............

Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Play Time: 70 hoursĀ and going because I like to hurt myself?
Platform: EA Pro PlayĀ
Rating: 4/10
(Moved this Review from my other account because I can't mix art and text)
EnvironmentsĀ
I had a few oh, thatās pretty moments, but overall I found it hard to feel immersed. The cities are nice I guess and detailed, but they lack distinct, memorable qualities.Ā
A city like Minrathous has the potential to be an exciting showcase of magic woven into everyday life. Mages using spells to transport goods or to perform mundane tasks. I was also looking forward to see a clear divide between magic users and non-magic users, as previous games have implied that Minrathous is Ferelden in reverse. Instead, NPCs feel static, and there is nothing new or interesting done with the magic. For a place built up as legendary in previous games... Minrathous just doesn't deliver. Further, you only get to explore one district, so there is no contrast between richer and poorer areas. And Treviso? It's pretty... but I mostly remember pointy roofs and ziplines.
Character Design
Faces and hair are a big step up from previous games, and armors are varied and nice to look at. But it comes at the cost that it feels overdone, leaning into flashy, cartoony territory. I ran around in my starting armor for half the game because nothing really fit my character.
The companions suffer from this too to some extent. Darinās open-chested armor seems impractical for a warrior, Neve, supposedly from Docktown, looks more like an aristocrat from Orlais than her background suggests. Bellaraās design is fine, but aside from her vallaslin, she doesnāt seem particularly Dalish. Emmerich and Harding look fine, especially in their camp outfits, which I prefer for most characters.
Combat and GameplayĀ
Iāll be honestāI eventually turned the difficulty down to story mode just to get through the game. The combat didnāt do it for me: repetitive enemy hordes that seem randomly placed, limited abilities, and dodging and rolling mechanics that donāt feel very engaging.
Aside from a few setpieces and two boss fights, no encounter stood out. Itās not a particularly hard game, it just got tedious after a few hours.
Another complaint is that every class now feels overly magical. Since the lore around magic is such a key part of the series, this really rubbed me the wrong way.Ā
Story and World-BuildingĀ
Starting with the biggest issue: Veilguardās main story is a weak.
In Inquisition, even if Corypheus wasnāt the most compelling villain, there was still a sense of growth as you built up your organization and connected with companions. In Veilguard, it feels like they stripped away what worked in previous games and just kept Corypheus. And the worst part? I miss Corypheus.Ā At least he had a booming voice and some interesting lines. Veilguard has none of that.
The villains in thisā¦ honestly, where to start? Rather than feeling meaningful, theyāre just names repeated so often it feels like the game worries Iāll forget them. Villains aside events unfold without much connection, leaving me questioning why things happen the way they do.
Why are we choosing these allies?
Why am I stuck doing busy work for them while the world is supposedly ending?
But who cares! It's not like your allies really matter. Rook is a one-man army after all. If weād had them instead of the Hero of Ferelden, the Blight wouldāve ended in Ostagarāand every named NPC wouldāve survived, including whoever slay the Archdemon.Ā
Character and Companion DynamicsĀ
While presented as experts, they rarely get the chance to demonstrate their skills. Harding sometimes provides useful contacts, and Emmerich occasionally shows his abilities, but beyond that, companions often feel like tropes with minimal growth or depth.
For instance, one character is the āunwilling father,ā but we never see him grapple with it genuinelyāhe just says it. Others are similarly shallow: the socially awkward ānerd,ā the ānoir detectiveā with a heavy burden, and the ātortured assassinā who doesnāt seem all that tortured. Insights rarely go deeper than quirks, like loving coffee or fish, which get mentioned repeatedly without further development.Ā
Previous games built strong, opinionated characters who added depth to the world, but here, companions are lacking. Banter is shallow, with little conflict or chemistry. Iāve never played a Dragon Age game where I wanted to skip side quests or companion quests, yet here, I actually did.
I honestly prefer Andromedas cast over this on. Never thought I'd say that but here we are.
Main CharacterĀ and Roleplaying
Rookās voice actor; I love em'... which only makes the limited dialogue options more frustrating. I tried to play Rook as a practical, no-nonsense character, but the writing kept steering me back to a softer, more agreeable tone.
If youāre aiming for a tougher or more forceful personality, you're out of luck. If you plan to play be prepared for Rook to come across as a diplomat.Ā Further, you are forced to agree with everyone, and never get to question them or their motives.
So... maybe don't get this if you're into Baldurs Gate 3 and player agency?
Ending WordsĀ
If youāre like me, and the highlights of previous games have been the banter, character depth, and exploring the world and lore, youāll likely be disappointed. Honestly, Iād even recommend skipping it. Then again, I've seen people say the opposite. So what do I know?
No matter what you do, Iād suggest waiting for a sale. Itās not worth the full price.Ā
Extra shit
Combat and GameplayĀ
Thereās the matter of the quest marker, which gives you tunnel vision which distract you from the enviorments.
The loot feels out of place due to its flashy animation. I started skipping loot in certain areas because it felt inappropriate and slowed down the pacing.
You'll fast travel a lot. And I don't mean in a big open area. It's more of a design flaw: Fast Travel to the Lighthouse to talk to a companion. Fast travel to a location to start that companion's quest, walk to said spot to start the quest. Repeat 5 times.
Story and World-BuildingĀ
The ending to its credit, was nicely paced and visually strong. If the rest of the game had been more like that, it wouldāve been a decent experience.Ā
The Shadow Dragons, the Crows, the Wardensāall these factions make sense to be here but do nothing meaningful for the story or the worldbuilding.
Even dramatic scenes lack memorable moments. For example, there is a prison escape that's visually pretty but otherwise lacks substance. The person you rescue has supposedly been there a year, but nothing about their appearance or behavior reflects this. Thereās no memorable dialogue, nothing deeperāitās all surface-level.
I personally think Bioware are cowards for only letting you side with an anti-slave organisation. Come on: This isn't the Teviner you've built towards for 3 games! *shakes fist*

thank you for the response!! i was finding that a lot of fans takes on twitter were based in expectation bias when their headcannons were not fulfilled. in other words, certain criticisms didnāt come from a place of objectivity and dissecting the story, but from a place of things not going the way they wanted after being knee deep in fanfics for 3 years. so i truly appreciate and really agree with your takes.
i think the show would have really benefited from a third season, or at the very least another act. i understand the writers want to explore other parts of the league universe but it felt unfair to rush this plot and these characters to get there. lack of commitment to the characters and their stories couldnāt be more true.
caitlynās arc HURT. she was such a likeable character in s1 and she feels totally different this season. i can see how some of her redemption is cultivated through actions but i donāt think it was nearly enough. she owed vi an apology and their needed to be very obvious remorse. there wasnāt nearly enough for the scale of her actions in acts 1/2. to me, caitlynās line to jinx āno amount of good deadās can ever undo our crimesā kind of feels like the writers wrote that line to excuse themselves from having to write anything that would actually redeem her. donāt even get me started on her inability to see how wrong it was to push the enforcer role on viā¦ any previous anti classist/anti police brutality messaging from s1 were not addressed at all in s2. they turned the piltover/zaun conflict into a both sides thing where instead caitlynās redemption could have been a really great time to highlight and talk about those issues again this season.
i agree on all fronts about vi. her relationship with both caitlyn and jinx was handled so poorly i donāt even know where to start. the writers totally lost sight of the plot (two sisters) and totally neglected the aspects that made caitvi so special. their trust and communication and willingness to learn and understand is what drove the story forward and served as a way highlight the piltover/zaun injustices. i was shocked by vi becoming an enforcer, but her letting cait gas the undercity with no objections was such a betrayal to her and EVERYTHING her character stands for. we finally had a mainstream butch character who is just knocked down time and time again. vi loves hard and protects her family and to me it ultimately felt like she was punished for having too big of a heart. i wish they treated her character more tenderly, and youāre right, more agency would have been a really great way to do that.
i feel the same about jinx. her character was mistreated and wasnāt handled with the care she deserved. i thought we may be getting somewhere with isha and her stepping into the role zaun needs her in. but it was torn away just as quickly as it was given to us and i canāt really think of a reason why this benefited the story?
a lengthy reply on my part as well but i really appreciate your opinion and thoughts!
as soon as i finished s2 of arcane i knew i wanted to hear your takes on it. any opinions as to how they handled caitlynās arc, viās story, and the development of s2? i would love to hear anything you have to say about this season!!
also - the end of this season has me scouring Ao3 for some fics to fill the void. have you had any recent one shot or fic ideas now that the show has ended? iāve been dying for a hurt/comfort and really soft sex type of story for cait and vi. maybe something where cait is taking care of vi after the events of 206? lord knows they could both use the comfort and vi deserves to be loved and taken care of. i know you would write that beautifully.
or if you have any recs for fics along those lines? š
as always, thanks for your incredible work both inside and outside of fandoms! love hearing from you! <3
Omg hiii! I appreciate that you care what I think haha!
Let me preface this by saying that the criticisms I have for the writing of s2 does not take away the love I have for this show and what it's done for animation as a medium.
Now, with that said...
S2 was a mess.
I said this on twitter, but I think the writers had a lot of ambition ā too much ambition ā for the amount of episodes they had to wrap this story up cohesively. This AMAZING show suffered because of corporate greed and not having enough time to flesh out character arcs and plots from s1. I think it started off promising. I was really excited to see how they would handle the Zaun/Piltover conflict, Vi's journey toward healing and forgiving herself for her past mistakes, Jinx's descent and then return as a hero, as well as Caitlyn's descent and redemption arc.
Instead we got... that.
There's one word that keeps twirling around in my head: commitment.
The writers lacked commitment (and a diverse writing room) to properly handle the Piltover/Zaun conflict. S1 had such a good starting point, whereas in S2 it's like they diverged from the path and forgot the finish line existed. Sitting Sevika at a table with her oppressors who will most likely tune her out and outvote her on everything is NOT a solution. Why not a complete overhaul of the council? Make it an even split? Instead it's the same people who never gave a fuck in the first place, and Sevika, who helped get half of the population of Zaun hooked on shimmer in the first place. Like what???
They failed to commit to Caitlyn's villain/dictator era. When episode 3 happened, I was skeptical about how they would handle it. And after watching the entire season, I had every right to feel that way. They make her so unapologetic and blasƩ about gassing Zaunites and letting Ambessa unlawfully arrest people. That's not my Cait from season 1. Does grief change people? Absolutely! But once it settles, you should be able to look back on what you've done and feel remorseful. Cait's lack of remorse was jarring. Her inability to apologize or outwardly own up to everything she did was OOC. You know what could've been the perfect moment for that? When Jayce gathered Piltover and Zaun in that room and she was standing right across from them. Why not have Sevika or Scar call her ass out and hold her feet to the fire? Lay out the facts of what her grief looked like to the innocent people of Zaun who had nothing to do with it? That would've been the perfect time for her to say something.
They failed to commit to Jinx and her story as a whole. At its core, this show was centered around two sisters growing up impoverished and oppressed, constantly separated, but always finding their way back to each other. Jinx is such a heartbreaking character used for trauma porn. Episode 6 fucked me up so badly but I THOUGHT it would lead to something big for her character. Like her stepping into this unwilling hero role and working with Ekko to lead Zaun into a better future like the one Ekko saw in episode 7. BUT LOL NOPE. Instead she's suicidal and self harming while her sister is fucking the oppressor in a prison cell. DA FUCK?
And lastly they failed Vi's character in every possible way. From putting on the badge in the first place to not exploring the depth of her character. She's basically a passenger in s2. Has no agency. Used as a punching bag (literally). And treated as an afterthought. I'm so pissed. There should've been a lot of conflict in act 1 between her and Cait. You mean to tell me Vi, who HATES enforcers. would willingly let her situationship gas her people? Fuck no. Absolutely not. It does not make sense, narratively speaking. Her ending did not make me hopeful. Even if Jinx is alive and moving on from Vi to "break the cycle" that does nothing for Vi's character. She is without family once again, and I fear it would lead to an unhealthy codependent relationship with Cait. Like she'll never be able to voice opposing thoughts or feelings without fear of Cait leaving her AGAIN.
As for the Caitvi relationship. This is tough. On one hand, I was happy to see a lesbian s*x scene in animation for an awarded television show. But on a heavier hand, it rings hollow after everything I've said. Much like the Piltover/Zaun story, Caitvi had a good starting point in season 1. I did have my issues with it because, as a Black woman, seeing someone oppressed get with a cop does nothing for me. But I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt because I believed the writers knew what they were doing. But I was wrong again. CaitVi is unfortunately one of the weakest points of S2. The writers did not COMMIT to their conflict. It's barely glossed over and then Caitlyn gets rewarded with s*x. And this is why I could never commit to them as a couple. At least not in canon. I liked them in s1 and the idea of what they could've been to each other in s2. And it looks like I'm going to have to find that elsewhere, unfortunately.
Overall, it all comes back to what I said in the beginning: lack of time, a diverse writing room, and corporate greed. I'm disappointed, but unfortunately not surprised. I hope the writers can learn from their mistakes moving forward.
As for fanfiction, I have actually not read any yet! So I don't have any recommendations for you. I need some for myself! I'll get back to you if I find any good ones.
Sorry for the lengthy post! I really just needed to get this all out and I feel so much better.

yknow i love transmasc/tboy dirk always and forever but the way some ppl treat transmascness vs transfemmeness in HS's narrative........kinda sucks. like the whole thing about how being transfeminine is a literal transient experience and lets the character in question (any character) truly escape the oppression of HS's narrative-as-a-character which is patriarchal and toxic (lord english, hussie-the-character to an extent. i guess. idk ive seen a lotta ppl lump SI-hussie in w/ this), which is great and does hold weight as an analytical lens esp with how hussie irl is nonbinary. but where does this leave transmasc characters. why are we treating (headcanoned) transfemme HS characters like this and then tbh gleefully dooming (headcanoned) transmasc characters to eternal narrative suffering brought by LE and then mocking them for being ''gross tboys'' full of ''icky testorerone'' so its their fault theyre in this perpetual torment really? because they ''''chose to be a man''''? dunno man its starting to feel bad. especially since some bnf's who are really into this fan theory do actually kinda treat the general idea of transmasculinity like somthing to hold with tongs at arms length away from them. as if its alien or infectous or something and then get really mad when equally dysphoric transmascs do the same with feminity. why are we dooming dirk strider to eternal toxic-masculine suffering and what does that say about how we treat real life transmasc folks both in and outside of the fandom
#my t#basically you arent more or less special or deserving of celebration or joy depending on what pronouns you use#and idk yall gender is such a personal thing and your trans experience def does colour the way you look at the world. it def does mine/ours#and i wish ppl on this site would be more honest about that cause holy hell do some of yall treat eachother like dogshit#PURELY on the basis of identity. you are no better than a TERF if you do this. you ARE a TERF if you do this#but like...........can we all at least TRY not to demonize '''the other side''' here#in quotations because theres no '''other side''' in the trans community we're all just trans in different ways#theres just like. yknow#theres a reason why so many tboys and transmasc folks identify with the striders and dirk especially#and theres a reason why *so many* transmascs felt so much joy abt tboy roxy#so many of our lives pre-transition looked and felt like roxy lalondes. so many of us legit forcefully feminized ourselves#bc the alternative was so fucking scary. as you can probably imagine regardless of what flavour of trans you are#theres also a reason why there are so many transmasc fictives named dirk and dave and idk what to tell these ppl abt that#i remember rlly clearly this affectionate joke like a literal decade ago on this site that was like#daves intro dropped and 1mil tboys named dave materialized into existence#dirks intro dropped and 1mil MORE tboys named dirk materialized into existence#i try rlly rlly hard not to get sour at wlw/nblw focused memes that are like#''i made pepsicola better!!! theyre she/theys now :)'' for example#but its getting increasingly harder to ignore when the same ppl who make these memes treat#fans who prefer m/m *bc they themselves are gay* like shit#or like enjoying m/m because theyre mlm is mysogynistic. which it isnt ffs#that shit gives i am uncomfortable when is not about me and i aint here for that#if i were like these ppl maybe id turn all their fave girls into tboys just to spite them#but it wont be just to spite them bc 1) i aint abt that actually. im too fuckin grown for it and 2)#i genuinely just enjoy exploring m/m and masculinity more because i am a trans mlm. its very simple math

You know, I was wondering:
If canon stopped at Je Souhaite and CC wrote the Revival later (but excluded William-Jackson and the mytharc), I wonder how much more... I don't know, plausible? it would be?
The problem with the Revival-- or why I never got into it-- was that so many out-of-character moments had to happen (S9 mostly) in order to set it up; and it never seemed worth my effort to watch. But I have IWTB locked and loaded for later this month; and I began to wonder if the Revival would have made more sense if Mulder had become lost in his obsession/depression after Colonization didn't happen, period, sometime after Je Souhaite; and the two being torn apart because of his tendency to withdraw into himself. I always thought that, even though they'd lost their son canonically, it was a factor that bound he and Scully tighter together; and their will-they-won't-they post S9 never rang true to me. I do factor in the need for space especially if Mulder won't/can't listen (precedent being set in Syzygy and Never Again and One Son etc.); but the reasons given (or not) for each "breakup" weren't... dealt with very well.
And maybe it's just me but some conversations in the Revival would have made more sense? if Mulder and Scully had never had kids and were happy but their happiness was shattered here and there because of Mulder's obsessions and regrets and not because Scully gave it all up but still walked away from him twice. (Plus One I think? was the "what if you get married and have kids" convo, and wouldn't that have been an interesting twist if Jackson wasn't a part of their history?)
ANYWAY. Ramble aside, I'll probably have more thoughts after IWTB... which should be interesting because I'm skipping right over S9 (so that my brain keeps it firmly in the AU category.) And IF that goes well, I miiiiiiiiiiiiight? dip into the Revival episodes that have nothing to do with the mytharc or William? Maybe? (Maybe not. XDD)
Is there a will-they-won't-they situation with them? To me there isn't. It might seem that way because CC didn't come right out and showed them as a couple in IWTB cause he wanted the audience to be surprised or something. But their love and what they feel for each other and that they both wanted to be together (and were) was never in question for me. And there is a lot of what you say in IWTB. Mulder and his obsessions and how that might drive a wedge between him and Scully.
As for the breakup in the revival, it just wasn't done well if you ask me. Like it's mentioned and then next episode, their dynamic is as it always was and you completely forget about it for the most part. There are a few mentions and in fact, there are a few great things in the revival.
The Plus One conversation - to me - was so misplaced in that episode. They were so beyond that point. It's a conversation they should have had in IWTB maybe. They were in their 50s (!) and talk about what "what if you meet someone and have a family". Sorry but that doesn't work for me.
The whole thing was clunky and just a way for CC to let Mulder and Scully have sex. Even without William/Jackson, that conversation happened too late for me. Cause it's never about what COULD have happened but what can still happen. And they're just too old for me for that at that point.
I think you can easily watch IWTB without having seen season 9. The only episodes you really need knowledge of to watch it are The Truth and maybe William.
I say give the revival a chance. You can always put it into AU category if you hate it :D
#lovely asks#i get angry just thinking about plus one lol#iwtb looks at mulder and scully more closely#i mean to me it's still not done well#but at least there's some exploration of who they are and why they do what they do

I don't think that "we were interested in those characters (ie [my guess] Caitlyn, Jinx, Warwick, Viktor)" implies "we don't think Vi is interesting".
My suspicion is more that they saw it "Vi got her turn and now we also want to do those other characters".
Take Silco for example. My guess is that they enjoyed writing him, but they felt that his story came to a natural and so they killed him and didn't feature him a ton in season 2. They had gotten what they wanted out of him. Silco fans clearly felt very differently. But in the end, it is their call to make.
Writers will always make decisions about who gets screentime and hero moments and badass lines. Them making Vi the character with the most focus in season 1 in itself is a favoritism choice because from an IP point of view, all these charactres are pre-existing and there is no practical reason to make Vi the point of view character of season 1 when in game is is equal to Caitlyn and to Ekko and to Viktor and to Bliktzcrank and to Camille and to 100 characters that didn't make it into the show.
They chose her because they like her (favoritism) and because they had potential. But they also like other charactres and see potential in other stories.
. If Vi is not interesting for you to explain to us more then why did you make us attached to her?
I find that an approach I can't get behind. The same logic could be used by the Silco fans to argue "you made us love Silco now you HAVE to make season 2 completely about him". What if fans have decided they have attached to Heimerdinger or to I dunno, the SevikaxSalo pairing and now the writers OWE them. (also worth nothing, it seems season 2 was written in 2019? before Arcane ever aired to the general public)
In the end to some extent it is normal that the writers want to make you care about all the characters, but they will make calls about what to focus on.
Don't get me wrong, I DEEPLY dislike many of their decisions. I for example DEEPLY think that doing the whole Viktor glorious evolution stuff and making it the main threat of Act 3 was a strategic mistake.
But at the same time, reading/listening to the interviews I understand that it's a story he really wanted to tell and it's one the artists put tons of creative effort in and some fans are into it and others (like me) aren't.
In the end, they get to have artistic freedom. (and I'm glad that he's at least smart enough to want to step away and have the next stories handled by other people)
they made her a dumbass character who only understands fighting,
That's not the vibe I got from season 2. I see a lot of traces of Vi having good instincts about people (ie following Singed, Remi's people). Act 1 seemed to be about the moral instincts vis a vis Cait.
Amanda Overton did an interview from which I got "We wanted to explore who Vi is if you take everything away from her/we see Vi's fundamental trait as being a protector and we wanted to explore who she is if she no longer has anybody to protect". To which I say ... okay... but it feels like the answer you came up with is something like "a shellshocked self destructive traumatized husk"?
I genuinely don't think that it's that much of a problem that they made Vi so heavily about physical fighting... it's that they did that and THEN made her fighting pretty useless? I wrote a lenthy analysis of the finale battle and I genuinely think that if Vi had gotten to be more heroic and successful, even just in a pure physical sense we would have walked away feeling a lot better about Vi. At least superficial satisfaction for "she's a figther and being a fighter is important and valuable and essential to this world".
Caitlyn and Ekko do heroic moves in the battle because of their smarts and their iron hard determination. Jinx and Jayce do heroic moves by reaching out to the baddie and doing heroic sacrifice. And what does Vi do?
I think it's one thing that let's say Vi fans wanted deep hurt-comfort exploration of Vi's trauma. I would say that was always unlikely to happen (I feel the same way when I see people the bemoan that the show wasn't about Zaun crushing Piltover in the dirt of Mel fans saying they wish the show had been only about schemes and politics and not action fighting). But imo they failed Vi even within the story they gave her.
I genuinely think Vi's story would have "rolled off the tongue" better if she had been down there with Caitlyn fighting back to back against Ambessa instead of Mel. Or if it had been her instead of Ekko smashing Viktor's mask.
Of it the show ended up on Vi finding the evidence that Jinx might still alive and not Caitlyn. (signalling = oh, Vi smart)
Or if the show had ended on episode 8. If it would have felt that the conclusion of her story is "okay, if you strip her of everthing, then Vi will choose life, symbolized by her having sex with Caitlyn". But instead we have:
1.) a whole episode where Vi does barely anything except watch in horror as other people die (after we already had that sort of in the Act 2 finale too)
2.) the looming idea that Jinx might be alive and okay ... so how would Vi feel about that? It leaves her story feeling unfinished in a particularly unsatifying way
(I compare that to Ekko for example, Ekko is strictly speaking in the same situation where if Jinx faked her death he doesn't know and his ending is very mornful and bittersweet-to-bitter. But I think it works better because his theme that arc was the whole "leaping forward while leaving something behind", so I personally walk away with a slighty better feeling for Ekko, like he would understand. But of course he also got "wins". He smashes Viktor's mask. He talks Jinx out of suicide. He is just a supporting character (outside of maybe episode 7), but you can still feel good about his character).
Vi was not devoid of good character moments. Her standing up to Cait at the end of Act 1 was an important moment. Her trusting Jinx and about Vanderwick was an important moment. The problem is that Act 3 doesn't manage to tie to together in a way that is satisfying.
"Dirt under your nails" isn't without merit. I guess it's supposed to signal to us, that no matter what you take away from Vi (original family, Jinx, Vanderwick) she will keep on fighting? But it just feels kind of meh, especially with how ill fitting she was in the big action finale.
I'm afraid the same writers will be writing the next shows.
They won't. For one supposedly the Noxus show has been in the works for a year while Arcane was still being finished. And Christian Linke had talked explicitly about how he wanted to find new people to tell those other stories. That they think of the new shows as representing the regions and him and Alex were the right people for Piltover and Zaun but they need to find somebody else for Noxus for example.
I wouldn't rule out that he might do another show (he has mentioned somewhere that he would like to maybe do more with the more whimsical parts of the IP, but to be honest, other parts of statement sound like they were pretty exhausted [and that was before the criticism over the finale was in] )
My guess is the Noxus thing will have a different creative team with their own priorities. (that said this approach with a multi character focus might by a likely side effect of League and of how League is structured).
For what it's worth, I don't think you and I ware even that much in disagreement about the flaws of season 2. i just don't think that switching Vi to supporting was necessary impossible to pull off. I think there's plenty of ways that could have been done and still have left her with a story that makes the fans feel reasonably good about it.
(for what it's worth, I think Warwick's story was also extremely messy and similarly jumbled as Vi's even thought that was one of the new stories they wanted to tell. Or the Commander Caitlyn story was introduced with so much pomp in Act 1, I wouldn't say it was completely fumbled [it ends with Caitlyn's badass sacrifice of her eye], but I would argue it still wasn't as emotionally resonant as it could have been, this is my read of Jinx's ending btw and why I think it is meant to be uplifting by the writers [mileage may vary])
Vi season 2
Saying this about Vi, considering the fact that fundamentally the very basis of the show is about the relationship between her and Jinx is INSANE. The description for the show literally tells the audience itās a story about two sisters and because the writers grew uninterested with one of them, they sidelined her.
Iām happy she got her happy ending, and i do believe that her writing remained consistent, my biggest issue with Vi this season was that she did feel sidelined, THAT was very obvious. I love her as a character outside of her relationship with Jinx and Caitlyn, however we didnāt get to see that this season.
Regardless if the ending stayed the same, Jinx and Vi barely interacting in the last act felt off. Itās really disappointing to see that one of the shows main and most important characters get sidelined in favour of others
anyway yeah thereās my rant bc seeing this shit on twitter has been pissing me off

Recent game related things .. hrmm...
#I do like the inconsistency of the first map. that is actually something older but that I re-found and added to my Game Reference stuff#so that when characters reference where they're from I can be accurate. I like that the whole map is kind of shifted up that way. Where the#actual south part doesnt even count as the south since its Too Far and Scary lol. and if you say you're from 'the north' thats basically#like.. one single continent. Though some people do make distinctions like 'north midlands' or etc. still. I like the ways that common#language isn't always precisely accurate like that. and thinking about why a culture would classify things a certain way or etc. etc.#The inventory page is so funny to me because it's literally just the BASe like.. sample layout just to make sure it works properly with 0#actual design into it. just colored rectangles thrown together in MS paint. but what if I like... left it like that.. what if all the other#art in the game and UI is like stylized and fully matching BUT the inventory/journal/etc. screens I just left as plain colored blocks#with random misalignments and black spots and etc gjhbhjj... It looks unfinished in a Funny Contrast way to me.#the wordcounts are just like... my past few days of writing.. I am still not getting 2200 words a day done or whatever I needed. I'm lucky#if it's even half of that .... tee hee.. :3c I do also keep having appointments and other things going on but..grrr...#The full map of the area is probably not necessary but I thought it would be more realisitc if people were able to reference things. Like i#you have people all living in a city area probably at some point someone might mention a neighboring city or some landmark nearby#or etc. so I thought having at least the basic names of what's around for reference would be sensible. A side character mentioning#'oh yeah I don't live here full time I just travel from Marisene sometimes' or whatever makes it seem more like a Real#Fleshed Out Place than people just making vague references like 'the river' or 'i come from a city nearby' or 'i went to a place somewhere#around here' or 'the other city' or etc. lol.. Especially since global cities/global areas are weird as they operate almost like an#independent country within their walls. so it's like a micro country inside of another country usually. just plopped down in some agreed#upon plot of land that won't be too disruptive to the main country around it. That could get very complex depending on the cultural and#political backdrop of where they're placed (though obviously they try to choose the 'easiest' areas possible for it). Asen is a very mild#country without much history of conflict or anything so it's fine. But still interesting that Sifeh and the entire branched out global area#border three other districts of Asen. Which means like 3 times the local representitives you'l have to negotiate with for some major change#or anything. I think one of the 'random characters you can find around the world and have short discussions with just to make the area#feel more populated and real even though theyre not actual important npcs' is going to be a guy who actually serves on the council that#handles running the global areas and he's like.. some perpetually exhausted middle aged elf running around with a clipboard or whatever#ANYWAY...... hrgh... still trying to write when I can....#I WISH so badly that I had the scope for a simple character creation menu and all character interactions would allot for the background#of your player character. And also to have a simple day night cycle where places in the world you explore/people you talk to during the day#have new options or dialogue at night.. BUT alas... I already am so behind on everything as is lol.. aughhh... T o T#As the worlds number one Needless Detail And Complexity Enjoyer i must dilligently prevent myself from adding additional complexity

Yeah the ambiguous timeline leaves a lot of flexibility for creative liberties.
And the character exploration potential you could do with this is something I frankly have invested far too much hyperfixation energy and time into. Because THINK ABOUT IT.
Luigi growing up under Count Bleckās wing since birth, being sheltered and only knowing what heās been told by his adoptive family. Having little reason to question or believe their word as anything but genuine or the truth. This āman in greenā would not have to be brainwashed/hypnotized by Nastasia to have his loyalty or to serve the Count, as because of his upbringing, why would he not want to help his family? At least, until heās put into situations that do challenge and have him really questioning things, torn between loyalties and morality, befitting his stance as the determinator of which prophecy prevails.
Count Bleck is also fascinating to dissect on how he would operate as a parent post-loss of Timpani, but pre-start of SPM. Because on the one hand, his main focus is on fulfilling the omnicidal prophecy of the Dark Prognosticus. Raising a child is prob the last thing on his mind (never mind something heād likely even consider doing without Timpani in the picture). But with finding Baby Luigi and the āman in greenā being such an integral figure in the prophecyās success, this can be used to his advantage to ensure his plan works. Thatās certainly how it would start out, and heād try to maintain some distance at the start as he is a dysfunctional, grieving, certified MESS, but (I might need to look it up again) I believe it was in Garsonās stories that we hear about the Ancients and how powerful their emotions are/how they feel them.
The Pure Hearts/Purity Heart is originally created from the concentrated power and manifestation of their love. And the Ancientsā wild feelings led to many a wild tales, such as Merluminaās many affairs and misadventures with her many suitors/partners, her sister marrying King Sammer I and having 100 KIDS WITH HIM, but also how Count Bleck himself (the Tribe of Darkness being an offshoot of the Tribe of Ancients) fell so deeply for Timpani then simply could not handle the loss of her that he sought to destroy everything. Heās still a villain and a bad guy for his choice to do so, but if I felt my emotions at the constant 11, 1000% that the stories seem to imply the Ancients did, I see why it drove him so mad.
And I also bring this up because while Bleck claims to have shut off his heart after losing his love, we still see how he cares for his minions. It wouldnāt be out of the wheelhouse to then suggest heād gradually come to genuinely care for the child heās raising under him as well beyond for his important role in the prophecy. And not just as a boss to another minion, but a parent for his child. Perhaps heād alter the plan as a result. Instead of his secret true plan to bring everything to oblivion and leave it in ruinā¦ the ālieā of creating new perfect worlds from the ashes no longer stays a lie. He still wants to punish existence for his pain and loss (bro imagine the angst of this man AGONIZING over the pain of āwhat could have beenā, of Luigi never knowing the woman that would have been his mother, how Timpani would have ADORED Luigi, the family they could have been together, etc), and while he cannot get her back, he can still avenge Timpani and create a new universe devoid of pain so that their son never has to go through the suffering his father has.
Bleck would still be a disaster parent, though. He tries his best, but thereās a lot of messiness going on that would for certain create some unhealthiness. One, he would be controlling and overprotective as shit. Initially because he canāt have āthe man in greenā turn against him rendering all that time invested a waste (plus it would hurt the others who are also attached), but after getting attached himself, itās also him going to extremes to keep Luigi safe from harm and spared from the worst of the horrors, suffering and evils in the universe. Look what it did to him, to OāChunks, Mimi and Nastasia. Theyāre all traumatized. And remember, Blumiere/Count Bleckās response to losing his wife was to commit omnicide; if he lost his child after allowing himself to more truly open his heart to someone else again and it was his fault, that would break him beyond salvation all over again.
In line with this, I donāt believe he would be honest to Luigi about a lot of things for most of his life. Obviously, he canāt exactly tell a young child heās gonna kill the multiverse for good and wants the kid to help him do it in good conscience, but back when Baby Luigi was just a tool, he still needed to start planting the seeds for loyalty to him. Count Bleck has already lied to his other minions sans Nastasia about the true plan, so heād lie here too, only sanitizing it further for a younger child. Then he got attached, plans change, but he still doesnāt come clean to anyone not in the full loop about it as why would they need to know when it no longer matters? Except it absolutely would come back to bite him in the ass, creating a lot of strain between him and Luigi whoās now questioning everything heās been told growing up: questioning how irredeemable the multiverse really is to deserve the violent cleanse by the Chaos Heart, if he was kept so sheltered because it was actually dangerous or because it kept him ignorant to a truth he was intentionally kept away from which kept him more āpliableāā¦ questioning if whether his Count/father actually cares about him as a person, if he ever did, or was only ever a tool.
Thereās also the other elephant in the room with āthe man in redā, the hero of prophecy and the Bleck famās biggest op, being revealed as Luigiās bio twin brother. Did the Count know this? Was he truly āabandonedā at all, as the Count had claimed for so long? Did his twin ever look for him? Miss him? Want him? Did the Count intentionally keep them apart? Was he ever going to learn about this detail? Before or after the Count, or the others, or even Luigi himself killed the hero for the success of the plan? Ever?
Then imagine poor Blumiere/Count either coming to realize or being accused directly of being ājust like his fatherā before him. The father who also imparted very strict rules and expectations on his child to uphold for what the elder wanted of them, going to extreme and even cruel measures to assert that control justified as āprotectionā and āfor your own goodā. ā¦Which he does end up doing to Luigi in respects here. That would be shattering.
Dimentio would absolutely exploit all of this to its fullest as well, manipulating both further against each other to draw Luigi to him instead (going in depth with everyone else in Team Bleckās relationships with Luigi is gonna take a whole nother post). All of this has provided him with more fodder to hurt Bleck with and twist the knife for his up-and-coming betrayal. Taunting him with the idea that his wife is actually still alive and has been with the heroes this whole time now coming to kill him to stop the Void? Effective, sure. But turning his child against him, too? That would hurt.
But when that doesnāt go as planned, imagine he ākillsā Luigi/Mr L (another discussion for another post) and leads Bleck to believe the heroes were responsible for it? Making all the Ch8 battles far more ruthless and grueling because the heroes arenāt just facing the villains to determine the the fate of all reality, but a family grieving the loss of one of their own thatās very fresh, and under the impression that THEYāRE his murderer(s). Count Bleck would on a dime fall back to that original plan to destroy everything permanently after losing someone he loved all over again.
Nearly killing the very people heās grieving over in his madness and nihilistic self-destruction.
Then Dimentio makes him watch as he mind controls his son and weaponizes him into the apocalyptic monstrosity per his destiny in the prophecy to then kill him and all else?
Sorry this got so long, but I have sooooooooo many thoughts with this concept as you can seeā¦
I love seeing so many people share their appreciation of Team Bleck being a family and wholly adopting Luigi as one of their own. Now Iād like you all to consider:
What ifā¦ Count Bleck found Baby Luigi while he was separated from his twin, and then he and the other raised him as part of the family into adulthood?
NOW THATS INTERESTING... we don't know the timeline at all of when count bleck lost timpani and also recruited the other minions so you could really get flexible with this one i imagine
a grown-up luigi encountering the red-clad hero of prophecy and being so startled because it's the first time he's ever seen someone who looks like him...

sometimes I feel like I've overcorrected on the unhealthy relationships in media thing because there is so much nauseating bullshit out there that people present as aspirational, which is kind of a shame because a lot of the most interesting fictional relationships are absolute nightmares and it's a real gift to see them appreciated by people who understand the nuances and the appeal
#it also depends on your reading of the term shipping I guess#like take lxc and jgy. super compelling and tragic. not healthy or anything and it annoys me when ppl make them all cutesy#but really worth digging into and exploring! same with like...amc iwtv. terrible marriage in like every way#but I really enjoyed watching it play out because the drama mattered to the characters and it was really interesting to dissect#and like phill and myeol are...idk what to call them. but they're enthralling#and obviously if you don't like phill lying to myeol or tracking him or trying to trick him into signing a contract#I'd say it's not the story for you but it was really compelling watching this utter freak meet someone unlike anyone else and like.#become deeply needy over his presence and then need to come to terms with what that means for him#ntm myeol's response to and counterattack on phill which is compelling and fun in its own right#like! this stuff is really neat and I wish like....fandom people didn't make me so wary about relationships#that weren't cut-and-dry sterile saccharine mush#that being said I do vaguely distrust ppl who ship them romantically bc who knows what they're doing with that BUT I also see why they do#of everyone on this list it is by far the least violent and toxic but still. there's some shit going on there#cor.txt
